Cataract is defined as eye disease which is characterized by clouding of the clear lens of the eye.
Why it occurs?
- The buildup of protein in the lens results in cataract. Causes are-
- Aging
- Diabetes Mellitus
- Congenital
- Severe trauma to the eye
- Eye surgery
- Ultraviolet-light exposure or, exposure to toxic substances
- Use of certain medications
- Intraocular inflammation
- Smoking
What are the Cataract Symptoms?
- Early stage no symptoms occur. Gradually these symptoms appear-
- Cloudy, foggy, filmy or blurry vision, feeling of having a layer over the eyes
- Frequent changes in eyeglass prescription
- Discomfort or impaired vision caused by bright lights
- Double vision or triple vision
- Near vision improvement (temporarily)
- The white area in the pupil of the eye (advanced stage)
