Stye Symptoms

A Stye is a red lump near the edge of your eyelid. It may be painful or annoying. The medical name for a stye is hordeolum.


Why it occurs?

It is usually a bacterial infection. Staphylococcus aureus is a common bacterium which causes this condition. It may also occur for chronic inflammation along the edge of the eyelid.

What are the Stye Symptoms?

  • A small, red, painful lump on the upper or lower eyelid near the base of an eyelash that is similar to a boil or a pimple
  • Tearing
  • Tenderness of the eyelid
  • Eyelid swelling
  • Itching, burning or a feeling of having something in the eye
  • Crusting of the eyelid margins
  • Droopiness of the eyelid
  • Blurred vision
