Narcolepsy is a chronic sleep disorder characterized by excessive sleepiness and frequent daytime sleep attacks. It is a chronic disease of the central nervous system.
Why it occurs?
The exact cause is unknown. But, maybe Causes are-
- Genetics
- Hypocretin/ reduced amounts of a protein
- Stress
- Infection
- Exposure to toxins
What are the Symptoms?
- Falling asleep suddenly and uncontrollably (last for 15 min to 5 hours)
- Periods of extreme drowsiness during the day
- Sudden loss of muscle control
- Sleep paralysis
- Dream-like hallucinations when falling asleep or waking up
- Fatigue
What can happen if it left untreated?
Following Complications may occur-
- Increased risk of a car accident, while driving/walking on the road
- The difficulty with social activities
- Public misunderstanding of the condition
- Difficulty functioning at work
