Why it occurs?
Causes are-
- Dietary iodine lack.
- Increased secretion of thyroid stimulating hormone.
- The inability of glands to take up iodine.
- Deficiency of deiodinase enzyme.
- Goitrogenic substances in food (cabbage)
What are Goiter Signs and Symptoms?
Sometimes patients come to the doctor with symptoms. Common features are-
- Large swelling in the neck (no specific size)
- Swallowing difficulty
- Breathing difficulty
- Hoarseness
- Feeling tightness in throat
What is the way of Prevention?
- By taking iodized salt and seafoods.
