Influenza or, Common Flu is a viral respiratory infection that attacks your respiratory system (nose, throat, and lungs). It is commonly called the flu. The viruses that pass through the air enter body through your nose or mouth and cause flu.
Why it occurs?
Influenza viruses cause the flu. There are three types of influenza virus - A, B and C. Influenza types A and B cause epidemics of respiratory illness. Influenza occurs each winter. So, this is called seasonal flu. Influenza type C is different from types A and B. Usually it does not cause epidemics. Efforts to control the impact of influenza are aimed at types A and B, and the remainder of this discussion will be devoted only to these two types.
What are the Influenza or, Common Flu Symptoms?
- A fever over 100 degrees
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Nasal congestion
- A headache and eye pain
- Aches and pains in muscles and joints
- A cough
- Chills and sweats
- Weakness and fatigue
- A sore Throat
- Young children and babies may have sneezing, lethargy, poor feeding, difficulty in breathing and a febrile convulsion.
What are the Complications?
Usually, it is not serious. But Complications for high-risk children and adults can be-
- Bronchitis
- Pneumonia
- Ear infections
- Sinus infections
